NFL Sunday Ticket Is Back on DIRECTV—So Are EverPass and Xumo Still Relevant?
A lot of bar owners are understandably angry after investing in streaming equipment, networking and staff training. The important question now is not whether to rip everything out—it is how to make every source work together.
The reaction is understandable
“Did I just spend money on equipment I no longer need?”
After businesses invested in EverPass players, Xumo Stream Boxes, network upgrades, cabling and new operating procedures, the new DIRECTV arrangement created a completely reasonable concern.
In most cases, the answer is no.
The announcement changes how commercial venues may receive NFL Sunday Ticket, but it does not eliminate EverPass, Xumo, commercial streaming or the need for a properly designed hybrid entertainment system.
In fact, satellite and streaming working together is likely to become the normal sports-bar architecture—not a temporary workaround.

What Actually Changed?
DIRECTV and EverPass entered a new commercial distribution arrangement covering NFL Sunday Ticket for eligible bars, restaurants, hotels, casinos and other businesses.
DIRECTV Satellite
Some venues may receive Sunday Ticket through their DIRECTV FOR BUSINESS satellite environment.
EverPass Streaming
Other venues may continue receiving the package through the EverPass commercial streaming platform.
Hybrid Delivery
Many businesses may benefit from using satellite for core programming and streaming for digital-exclusive content.
That is different from EverPass disappearing or DIRECTV completely replacing it. EverPass remains part of the commercial content and licensing ecosystem while businesses gain more delivery options.
Existing investment
Your EverPass Equipment Is Not Obsolete
EverPass is more than a temporary route to NFL Sunday Ticket. It remains a commercial streaming platform for sports programming that may not be available through a traditional satellite receiver alone.
Content flexibility
Depending on your subscriptions and commercial package availability, EverPass may provide access to Sunday Ticket, RedZone, Peacock Sports Pass, ESPN+ for Business and other digital sports programming.
Infrastructure already in place
Wired connections, player assignments, TV mappings, network capacity and staff procedures remain useful for current and future streaming services.
Sports rights are increasingly divided between traditional networks and streaming platforms. Even when Sunday Ticket is delivered through DIRECTV, other games and events may still require an EverPass or streaming source.

National windows
Other games may air through NBC, ESPN, ABC, NFL Network or related services.
Streaming exclusives
Some events may be carried through Peacock, Prime Video or another digital provider.
That fragmentation is why relying on one receiver type, one streaming box or one provider is increasingly difficult for a serious sports venue.
